From Our Last Meeting - June 22, 2026

Curtiss S. Peck of the R.A.C.E. Suicide Prevention program addressed ways in which everyday people can help prevent suicide. He advised how to actively listen, don't judge, peacefully control the situation; do not use force; keep everyone safe. The acronym R.A.C.E (Recognize, Ask, Care, Escort) summarizes the steps an individual should follow to take an active role in suicide prevention/intervention.

“We are helping people choose life instead of death,” Peck told Rotarians. “We want to be the someone who showed up, the someone who cared.” Peck has assisted Marines riddled with guilt over lives lost, has served as a trainer for hundreds of volunteers, and has convinced many trying to commit suicide that “their life is worth living.”

“HOPE is a solution to suicide,” concluded Peck. “You can be that hope.”

“It was my turn to step up and do the job,” President Mike said. “And I am incredibly grateful….you gave me a platform to prove what I was capable of.”

President Mike also expressed great gratitude to the club for supporting and upholding him this year. He noted he had overcome a tough year rebuilding his brand and his video business, defying those who may have doubted him, and finding grace, room, and trust in fellow Rotarians.
